What do you get when you mix together two sassy women, pecans, and a whole lot of southern flavor? You get one of Watertown’s staple restaurants and confectionaries, Sassy Pecan. Sassy Pecan made its journey to Watertown in May of 2019 from Minnesota. If you’ve seen their building in Downtown Watertown, you might think it looks familiar. It was Walker Creek Confections before Sassy Pecan took over, but before that, it was home to American Hardware! The building was built more than a century ago and has so much Watertown history in its walls!
Before we get to the next part, the Visit WilCo Team needs to insert a disclaimer to say that the reviews of Sassy Pecan’s confections are those of Visit WilCo and should not be associated with Sassy Pecan as a company (but trust us, once you try them for yourselves, you will feel the same as us!) Sassy Pecan is famous for their Sticky Doohickeys. Let us put an image in your head for Sticky Doohickeys: think rice crispy treats meet toffee. Yes, they are just as melt in your mouth delectable as they sound. With flavors like birthday cake, chocolate peanut butter, and cinnamon bun, there is a flavor for everyone! If Sticky Doohickeys don’t sound like your type of treat, don’t worry, Sassy Pecan has other confections and treat! Try their Pecan Toffee Krunchies, Sassy Pecan Clusters, or their Sweetie Cakes. Believe us when we say you don’t want to go into Sassy Pecan without a sweet tooth!
Shortly after opening their doors, Sassy Pecan noticed the need for more lunch options in Watertown and wanted to support local business as the same time. They now offer lunch daily! Right now, their lunch is curbside pick-up only as a COVID-19 precaution, but they cannot wait to start serving you in their dining room as soon as the CDC deems it safe!
The COVID-19 crisis is putting strain on small businesses around the county, but Ka Small, owner of Sassy Pecan is tackling the challenges head on. Here is what she has to say about Sassy Pecan during the crisis,
“Last summer, we relocated Sassy Pecan to Wilson County with plans to reestablish the business in the heart of its Southern heritage. The current crisis challenges us to rethink how we use resources and reach customers. We’re using the time to create new products that will be ready for the retail store post-COVID-19, but will be available online by March 30. We make fresh soups and salads that customers can order and pick up curbside for lunch, as well as other Sassy Pecan treats and products. Curbside pickup is available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays. Just give us a call at (615) 697-2125 and we’ll have it ready. You can also order some products online for free shipping. Small business is vital to our community and we appreciate your support!”
We urge you to take this time to shop small in any way you can! These are tough times, but WilCo will get through the COVID-19 crisis, and we will be stronger on the other side. So “In the Meantime…” support local through to-go and curbside options until you can meet face to face again.
